Matthew 13:44-52
He sells everything he owns and buys the field
Jesus said to the crowds, ‘The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field which someone has found; he hides it again, goes off happy, sells everything he owns and buys the field.
‘Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls; when he finds one of great value he goes and sells everything he owns and buys it.
‘Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet cast into the sea that brings in a haul of all kinds. When it is full, the fishermen haul it ashore; then, sitting down, they collect the good ones in a basket and throw away those that are no use. This is how it will be at the end of time: the angels will appear and separate the wicked from the just to throw them into the blazing furnace where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.
‘Have you understood all this?’ They said, ‘Yes.’ And he said to them, ‘Well then, every scribe who becomes a disciple of the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out from his storeroom things both new and old.
The table of God’s word presents to us the attitude of a man who receives certain gifts as long-term investments. These things gain their true worth after some time, in the future.
In the First Reading from the Book of Kings, Solomon, the king of the Jews, asks for wisdom so that he may rule over the kingdom of his father David. He asks the Lord for something that will bring him authority before the people, not only in the present, but also with a view to the future. The beginning of his reign is described as a rule of wisdom, seeking what is right in the sight of God.
The Gospel of Matthew gives us the example of people who sell everything to buy a treasure or a pearl. Again, this is a long-term and forward-looking investment, one that demands patience and sacrifice so that its fruits may be enjoyed later.
These themes from the readings describe my involvement and work for God and his Church. God’s message to me is an answer to the question of why I cannot yet see the spiritual fruits.
My persevering work is a long-term investment that will bear fruit in the future. Every day I give myself for God and his works, but in the sight of God nothing is in vain. The Lord gathers it as the “harvest” of eternity.
Christians are called to serve God in his Kingdom, not caring only for their own business and possessions, but patiently looking to the Lord and to the people around them.
O Lord, make me an instrument of your peace (St Francis). Amen.

Królestwo niebieskie podobne jest do skarbu ukrytego w roli. Znalazł go pewien człowiek i ukrył ponownie. Z radości poszedł, sprzedał wszystko, co miał, i kupił tę rolę. Dalej, podobne jest królestwo niebieskie do kupca, poszukującego pięknych pereł. Gdy znalazł jedną drogocenną perłę, poszedł, sprzedał wszystko, co miał, i kupił ją. Dalej, podobne jest królestwo niebieskie do sieci, zarzuconej w morze i zagarniającej ryby wszelkiego rodzaju. Gdy się napełniła, wyciągnęli ją na brzeg i usiadłszy, dobre zebrali w naczynia, a złe odrzucili. Tak będzie przy końcu świata: wyjdą aniołowie, wyłączą złych spośród sprawiedliwych i wrzucą w piec rozpalony; tam będzie płacz i zgrzytanie zębów. Zrozumieliście to wszystko? Odpowiedzieli Mu: Tak jest. A On rzekł do nich: Dlatego każdy uczony w Piśmie, który stał się uczniem królestwa niebieskiego, podobny jest do ojca rodziny, który ze swego skarbca wydobywa rzeczy nowe i stare.
Stół słowa Bożego ukazuje nam postawę człowieka, który otrzymuje pewne dary jako długoterminową inwestycję. Te rzeczy zyskują swoją prawdziwą wartość dopiero po pewnym czasie, w przyszłości.
W pierwszym czytaniu z Księgi Królewskiej Salomon, król Żydów, prosi o mądrość, aby mógł rządzić królestwem swego ojca Dawida. Prosi Pana o coś, co przyniesie mu autorytet wobec ludu nie tylko w teraźniejszości, ale także z myślą o przyszłości. Początek jego panowania ukazany jest jako rządy mądrości, poszukujące tego, co słuszne w oczach Boga.
Ewangelia według świętego Mateusza daje nam przykład ludzi, którzy sprzedają wszystko, aby kupić skarb albo perłę. Również tutaj mamy do czynienia z inwestycją długoterminową i skierowaną ku przyszłości, która wymaga cierpliwości i ofiary, aby jej owoce mogły zostać skosztowane później.
Te tematy z czytań opisują moje zaangażowanie i pracę dla Boga oraz Jego Kościoła. Orędzie Boga skierowane do mnie jest odpowiedzią na pytanie, dlaczego jeszcze nie widzę duchowych owoców.
Moja wytrwała praca jest długoterminową inwestycją, która przyniesie owoc w przyszłości. Każdego dnia oddaję siebie Bogu i Jego dziełom, lecz w oczach Boga nic nie jest daremne. Pan gromadzi to jako „żniwo” wieczności.
Chrześcijanie są wezwani do służenia Bogu w Jego Królestwie, nie troszcząc się jedynie o własne sprawy i posiadłości, lecz cierpliwie patrząc ku Panu oraz ku ludziom wokół siebie.
Panie, uczyń mnie narzędziem Twojego pokoju (św. Franciszek). Amen.
