Matthew 11:25-30
You have hidden these things from the wise and revealed them to little children
Jesus exclaimed, ‘I bless you, Father, Lord of heaven and of earth, for hiding these things from the learned and the clever and revealing them to mere children. Yes, Father, for that is what it pleased you to do. Everything has been entrusted to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, just as no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
‘Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest. Shoulder my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Yes, my yoke is easy and my burden light.’
In His teaching, Jesus Christ calls simple people blessed because they are able to recognise the teaching of God. It is important to understand what it means to be simple: it does not mean being inferior. Jesus presents this attitude as the virtue of humility and simplicity. The Lord delights in those who are honest and open to Him.
The words of Christ confirm that a person with a humble and simple heart can recognise the Lord.
I remember a piece of advice from my professors at the seminary. They used to say: try to study theology on your knees. Study and intelligence are very important, but a person who prays, kneels before God, and remains in His presence may come to know more than someone of great wisdom who lacks prayer and openness to the Lord.
Quite a few saints received the gift of above-average intelligence, yet they also had an attitude of prayer and humility before the wisdom of God. The great theologian Thomas Aquinas left us many writings about the nature of God and of the human person. He always knew that before Jesus he was a simple man.
Christ revealed Himself to people who were not highly educated. St Faustina, who had only partly completed primary school, wrote profound truths about God in her diary. One day her confessor, Father Sopoćko, said to his friend that she had never studied theology, yet she had written so deeply about the greatness of God.
A boy from Fatima, Francisco Marto, one of the visionaries, used to say: I go to adoration to console Jesus Christ. This great truth about Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, expressed by a little boy, was revealed through grace from above. Jesus speaks in the Blessed Sacrament, immersing me in His grace and wisdom. He loves the silence that dwells in the people of God.
Jesus Christ, speak always to my heart. Amen.

W owym czasie Jezus przemówił tymi słowami: Wysławiam Cię, Ojcze, Panie nieba i ziemi, że zakryłeś te rzeczy przed mądrymi i roztropnymi, a objawiłeś je prostaczkom. Tak, Ojcze, gdyż takie było Twoje upodobanie. Wszystko przekazał Mi Ojciec mój. Nikt też nie zna Syna, tylko Ojciec, ani Ojca nikt nie zna, tylko Syn, i ten, komu Syn zechce objawić. Przyjdźcie do Mnie wszyscy, którzy utrudzeni i obciążeni jesteście, a Ja was pokrzepię. Weźcie moje jarzmo na siebie i uczcie się ode Mnie, bo jestem cichy i pokorny sercem, a znajdziecie ukojenie dla dusz waszych. Albowiem jarzmo moje jest słodkie, a moje brzemię lekkie.
W swoim nauczaniu Jezus Chrystus nazywa błogosławionymi ludzi prostych, ponieważ potrafią rozpoznać naukę Boga. Ważne jest, aby dobrze zrozumieć, co oznacza prostota: nie oznacza ona niższości. Jezus ukazuje taką postawę jako cnotę pokory i prostoty. Pan raduje się tymi, którzy są uczciwi i otwarci na Niego.
Słowa Chrystusa potwierdzają, że człowiek o pokornym i prostym sercu potrafi rozpoznać Pana.
Pamiętam pewną radę moich profesorów z seminarium. Mówili: starajcie się studiować teologię na kolanach. Nauka i inteligencja są bardzo ważne, ale człowiek, który się modli, klęka przed Bogiem i trwa w Jego obecności, może poznać więcej niż ktoś obdarzony wielką mądrością, lecz pozbawiony modlitwy i otwartości na Pana.
Niemało świętych otrzymało dar ponadprzeciętnej inteligencji, a jednak mieli oni także postawę modlitwy i pokory wobec mądrości Boga. Wielki teolog Tomasz z Akwinu pozostawił nam wiele pism o naturze Boga i człowieka. Zawsze wiedział, że przed Jezusem jest człowiekiem prostym.
Chrystus objawiał się ludziom, którzy nie byli wysoko wykształceni. Święta Faustyna, która ukończyła jedynie część szkoły podstawowej, zapisała w swoim dzienniczku głębokie prawdy o Bogu. Pewnego dnia jej spowiednik, ksiądz Sopoćko, powiedział do swojego przyjaciela, że nigdy ona nie studiowała teologii, a jednak tak głęboko pisała o wielkości Boga.
Chłopiec z Fatimy, Francisco Marto, jeden z wizjonerów, mawiał: idę na adorację, aby pocieszać Jezusa Chrystusa. Ta wielka prawda o adoracji Najświętszego Sakramentu, wypowiedziana przez małego chłopca, została objawiona dzięki łasce z wysoka. Jezus przemawia w Najświętszym Sakramencie, zanurzając mnie w swojej łasce i mądrości. On kocha ciszę, która mieszka w ludzie Bożym.
Jezu Chryste, przemawiaj zawsze do mojego serca. Amen.
